Three Little Ringed Plovers close together at Leanyer sewerage works. They were tapping the soft mud with their feet.
3 (probably more) Banded Honeyeaters at Rapid Ck, approx 6pm. They were on the dead end track parallel to the creek, east of the non-car bridge roughly opposite the Beachfront Hotel. All immature birds with bands varying from buff to black. Backs blotchy with various amounts of black developing.
Peregrine Falcon sighted on Bathurst St near Hibiscus Shopping Centre trying to get a meal out of friarbirds.
A juvenile Banded Honeyeater this afternoon in a small flowering paperbark in the swampy area along Sandy Ck. in the SW Corner of the Hospital area.
A flock of between 200 and 300 Gouldian Finches at the Mary River Excavation Pits. Also 4 Pacific Bazas showing courtship at Bird Billabong.
Female Red Goshawk in the nest tree opposite Mataranka Cabins, Bitter
Springs on Sat afternoon, 15 Aug. It then flew to a nearby tree for a good
preening session, affording fantastic views.
Star Finch (~15) at the Borrow Pits track at Warloch Ponds.
McMinn's Lagoon, 1 Dollarbird. No others have been reported yet.
Two Little Ringed Plovers at Leanyer Sewage Works, the first reported for the season.
A flock of about 50 Gouldian Finches, predominantly juvenile but mixed black and red faces scattered thoughout. 20 or so were around for another 10 minutes, but no large groups after that. During the next 2 hours there was an almost constant trickle of ones, two and three coming in to look and sometimes drink. Again black was about 1:6, with only a few partial red faces in the small groups.
** Spinifex Pigeon: 1 only on Policeman's Point road.
** Grey Falcon: Soaring low over the Gregory Tree road 2.3 km north of the Victoria Hwy (west of Timber Creek).
** Chestnut-backed Button-quail: 4 flushed on the northwest side of the Old Victoria Hwy at Chainman Creek, 20km west of Katherine.
** Budgerigar: Numerous flocks of up to 20 on the Bullita Access Road.
** Pictorella Mannikin: 6 on the Buntine Hwy, 6.5 km south of the Victoria Hwy.
** Purple-crowned Fairy-wren: Female seen at Policeman's Point, male seen at end of the Victoria River Access Road at Victoria River, and heard at the bottom of the Victoria River roadhouse campground.
** Red-browed Pardalote: 1 only in woodland on the Victoria Hwy opposite the Bullita Access Road.
** Gouldian Finch: 20 (1 black-faced and 1 red-faced adult, remainder young), on the Buntine Hwy 3.5 km south of the Victoria Hwy. 30 (3 adults) on the Bullita Access Road.
